Last week, the iAIR Institute, represented by our Principal Dr. John McKeon, had the privilege of attending the annual meeting of the Advisory Council of the Center for Healthy & Efficient Spaces (CHES) in Washington, D.C. This gathering brought together leading experts and innovators dedicated to improving indoor environments, showcasing the strong commitment to health, sustainability, and collaboration.
The meeting was chaired by Scott Tew and the Trane Technologies team, who set the stage for a highly engaging dialogue. Dr. John McKeon, Principal of the iAIR Institute, was in attendance and expressed his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting the depth of knowledge shared throughout the discussions. A standout moment was the keynote address delivered by Whitney Austin Gray from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), who emphasized the critical link between building design and occupant health.

In addition to the inspiring presentations, attendees were offered a unique perspective on the current political landscape in D.C. from Brian C. Jones, Trane’s head of government affairs. The insights shared during this session showed how important advocacy and policy is in shaping healthier indoor spaces.
A special highlight of the meeting was an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Capitol Building led by former Congressman Russ Carnahan. This historical journey served as a reminder of the importance of legislative support in advancing initiatives that promote healthier environments.
The collaborative spirit of the CHES Advisory Council, which includes experts from diverse fields such as medicine, epidemiology, and policy, is vital for shaping future strategies and standards. Together, they are committed to creating innovative solutions that prioritize human health while also addressing environmental sustainability.
As we move forward, the iAIR Institute remains dedicated to empowering stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary for creating healthy indoor environments. The insights gained from this year’s CHES meeting will undoubtedly contribute to our ongoing mission, building on the foundational strategies established in last year’s gathering, where we first began exploring the interconnectedness of health, sustainability, and innovation in our built environments. The insights gained from this year’s CHES meeting will undoubtedly contribute to our ongoing mission of transforming spaces to enhance well-being and quality of life.
We look forward to sharing more developments from our collaborations and initiatives aimed at building a healthier future.
