Indoor Air 2026 opens tomorrow in Singapore, and the iAIR Institute will be represented at what is widely regarded as the world’s foremost scientific conference on indoor air quality.
The 19th International Conference of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality & Climate (ISIAQ) takes place at Singapore Management University from 14 to 18 June. This year’s theme, “Enhancing Wellbeing in Existential Challenges: Deepening Understanding, Building Resilience,” sets the tone for a conference that reflects the growing urgency of indoor air quality research in the context of climate change, urbanisation, and the increasing complexity of the built environment.
New research: the effect of HVAC duct cleaning on indoor contaminants
On Wednesday 17 June, from 10.30am to 12.00pm in Room 3.09, Dr. John Ryan (CEO of Airmid Healthgroup and a leading figure in IAQ science) will present research investigating the effect of professional HVAC duct cleaning and maintenance on particulate matter, bacteria, mould, and allergens. This research was conducted in partnership with NADCA, the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.
HVAC duct systems are a critical but often overlooked factor in indoor air quality. Over time, ducts accumulate particulates, biological matter, and allergens that can be redistributed through a building with every cycle of the ventilation system. This study investigates whether professional cleaning and maintenance of these systems produces measurable reductions across key contaminant categories, providing the kind of evidence-based insight that informs standards, guidance, and real-world practice.
The research aligns directly with the iAIR Institute’s focus on advancing the scientific foundations that underpin meaningful improvement in indoor environments.

The iAIR Institute is a signatory to the Global Pledge signing ceremony being hosted at Indoor Air 2026 by ASHRAE, ISIAQ, and Air Club. This ceremony reflects a growing international consensus that healthier indoor air requires coordinated commitment across the scientific, standards, and industry communities.
